Engineers Australia impressed by wharf development
On Wednesday the second on-site tour for Engineers Australia at the QuayLink construction site took place, with more than a dozen members receiving an in-depth briefing by Superintendent Pieter Goldie.
Engineers were shown the most recent developments, with the second fender block having recently been installed and preparations now underway for the third fender block to be lifted into position.
The placement of 8T rock bags for scour protection continues at pace and deck planks and beams have now all been pre-cast and continue to be craned into place.
Yesterday, the first raker pile was installed. A raker pile is a structural bracing element supporting the existing 3E wharf structure at the southern end. There are ten raker piles to be installed over the coming weeks. To connect the raker piles to the headstock, 280 cubic metres of concrete will be poured in-situ, tying the elements together.
The whole QuayLink construction site currently has a number of smaller packages of works being undertaken. Our principal contractors the Hazell Brady Joint Venture are currently working on the main work package which will be completed by June 2024.
