TasPorts fills the gap at East Devonport Primary
TasPorts is supporting East Devonport Primary School to provide healthy school lunches five days a week.
TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald said he was pleased to make a positive social impact enabling the school to extend the program from four to five days to cover the entire school week.
“This complements the funding the school receives from the Department of Education and Loaves and Fishes and means the 220 students are guaranteed a nutritious lunch every day they’re at school.
“Many of our employees are based in the Devonport region and supporting young people with wellbeing and learning in communities where we operate is important.”
TasPorts’ partnership with East Devonport Primary School is in its third year as part of the Port of Devonport QuayLink project.
Mr Donald said TasPorts was also looking forward to running a mini jobs-expo at the school, sharing with students details about their roles at the port with hands on activities.
“Our engineers, builders, safety navigators, marine pilots, naval architects, environmental officers and underwater drone operators will share their knowledge and answer questions, he said.
“Last year TasPorts engaged with students to design ships of the future, and used the artworks to illustrate temporary signage on the boundary of port construction works in Devonport.”
“The Port of Devonport is a key gateway for trade and tourism, and through our School's program we’re investing in the future of East Devonport.”
