When does the program start?
The NextGen Leaders Program will commence in February 2025.
How long does the program run for?
The NextGen Leaders Program runs for two-years. The program aims to lead to permanent employment while providing specialist knowledge in areas including port operations, maritime logistics, and international shipping regulation.
Can I apply in my final year of studies?
Yes, as long as you have successfully completed your degree by the commencement of the NextGen Leaders Program in February 2025.
If successful, you will be required to provide the official transcript of your academic results as evidence you have completed your degree.
What opportunities are available after the program?
The NextGen Leaders Program aims to provide ongoing employment within TasPorts. We are committed to supporting your career development and will work closely with you through the program to identify the area of the business your ongoing position will be at the end of the program.
How many graduates are accepted each year?
In our inaugural year, the NextGen Leaders Program will offer three graduate positions.
Do I have a choice of placement in the rotation plan?
Rotations will be determined based on successful candidates' area of study and best alignment to Divisions that will offer the best possible experience.
This includes: Major Projects, Assets and Technical Services, Operations, Marine, Legal and Corporate Governance, Corporate Services, or People and Culture.
Who do I address my cover letter to?

How long should my resume be?
Your resume should be between 4-5 pages, including a summary of your qualifications, experience, skills and quality.
How can I prepare for, and what can I expect, at the interview?
Preparation
You will interview with experienced professionals currently working in your desired field. To prepare, you should review the position description and the key capabilities for the role and research TasPorts.
Interview questions will be based around exploring more about your studies and any relevant work or volunteer experiences you have.
It may be helpful to review the STAR interview method, which is used at TasPorts. Use STAR (Situation, Task, Action and Result) to structure your responses, identifying key experiences that highlight your skills:
- Describe the context of a relevant situation.
- Explain the task or challenge you faced.
- Outline the actions you took to address it.
- Detail the results of your actions.

What background checks are required?
As part of our recruitment process, TasPorts will conduct some background checks. This will include references and a police check. There will also be a medical assessment for successful applicants.
All costs associated with the police check are covered by TasPorts. Please complete all steps as soon as possible. Our final decision is contingent upon the confirmation of all checks.
