Entering its second year, the Program will distribute scholarships to a total of $5000 to members to access professional development opportunities which create a stronger and more capable surf lifesaving community in Tasmania.

Recipients of the scholarships will be able to use funding to assist with costs of training courses, workshops or travel to further their development.

“The TasPorts Leadership Scholarship Program forms an important part of a number of leadership initiatives Surf Life Saving Tasmania makes available to its members,” said Tony van den Enden, SLST Chief Executive Officer. “TasPorts not only supports programs targeting marine safety within the state but are great supporters in developing the skills of those within the surf lifesaving community.

“This Scholarship Program has the added benefit of enhancing the leadership capability within the organisation, which in turn will see further development opportunities passed on to the wider membership at a club level.”

A selection panel will assess submissions from all applicants and award recipients based on a number of criteria including the potential for the scholarship to enhance members’ knowledge and capability and that of the SLST community.

TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald commented, “TasPorts is proud to support initiatives that improve marine safety in Tasmania and ensure the safety of waterways where we operate."

TasPorts three-year partnership with Surf Life Saving Tasmania (SLST) includes funding for the Leadership Scholarship Program, in addition to support for our annual Beach to Bush Program and training opportunities for our rescue services.

Mr Donald continued, “We appreciate the efforts of services that provide essential emergency support and are committed to facilitating training, education, and awareness outcomes. SLST and its members are vital in fostering healthy communities and ensuring safety in and around our beaches and port regions. We are immensely proud of the high level of applications we received in 2023."
