TasPorts has a new initiative underway to help young Tasmanians navigate their futures through a two-year Graduate Program commencing 2025, with recruitment now underway.

The TasPorts’ NextGen Leaders Program offers talented University of Tasmania (UTAS), returning Tasmanians from mainland universities, and Australian Maritime College (AMC) graduates the opportunity to join the organisation, with a focus on professional and personal growth, leadership development, industry relevant skills and networking opportunities.

TasPorts' Chief Executive Anthony Donald said three graduate positions will be offered for 2025 with opportunities across academic disciplines including IT, cyber security, business, finance, law, communications, human resources, engineering and environment and sustainability.

“The Program will see graduates move across divisions in the organisation and lead at least one continuous improvement initiative, which supports our organisation focus on innovation,” he said.

“The Program aims to give young Tasmanians who are interested in an industry that offers broad based experience for the future the best opportunity to gain skills, specialist knowledge, hands on experience, global perspectives, regulatory insights and economic impact understanding.

“This supports the graduates to advance their careers, while providing TasPorts and the broader industry a strong pipeline of talent and emerging leaders.”

Mr Donald said the Program aimed to lead to permanent employment while providing specialist knowledge in areas including port operations, maritime logistics, international shipping regulations.

“The Graduate Program will also provide industry relevant skills including training in supply chain management, maritime economics, environmental sustainability and technology applications in ports, equipping them to be well-prepared for future industry demands,” he said.

“TasPorts has a number of inter-generational projects underway which are game changers for our ports, our customers and the broader economy, and the opportunity provides graduates to join the organisation during an incredible period of innovation and development.”

Recruitment is underway, with successful graduates to commence at the start of 2025. They can apply for the NextGen Leaders Program here.
