The future of the Mersey Slip in Port of Devonport is secured with TasPorts and BridgePro Engineering Pty Ltd entering a new partnership that will increase the slip’s size and capability.
TasPorts Chief Executive, Anthony Donald said the partnership with BridgePro was a win for the local community, fishing fleet and maritime industry.
“Following significant remediation works undertaken by TasPorts, BridgePro will be investing more than $3.5M in redeveloping the site to service the local fishing fleet and the wider Devonport Community,” Mr Donald said.
“The expanded and redeveloped site will increase the size and capabilities of the slip including a proposed dedicated wharf for the home berthing of the local fishing fleet.
“A long-term, 20-year lease, will provide certainty for these valuable services, future proofing them for the community.”
BridgePro Managing Director Aaron Brimfield said “BridgePro is proud to partner with TasPorts in such a worthy investment for the benefit of the many local businesses”.
Mr Donald said upgrades complement the remediation works completed in early December 2023, including the successful treatment of material with hydrocarbon and heavy metal contamination, an overhaul of the power supply and cabling, as well as a new substation to support future expansion.
“We’re confident the future operations will provide the right level of shipway services for the local community, fishing community and maritime industry,” he said.
Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman said “The partnership between TasPorts and BridgePro represents an incredible opportunity for our local community. This redevelopment not only preserves a critical asset for Devonport but also strengthens our economic future by supporting local jobs and the fishing industry, which are vital to our identity and prosperity. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this will bring to Devonport.”
