Devonport Airport is set for a major uplift, as the airport’s owner and operator TasPorts, announces a new three-year partnership with Qantas.
Qantas is one of two passenger airlines operating out of Devonport Airport, flying 46 flights per week between Devonport and Melbourne.
As part of the new three-year agreement Qantas will upgrade its Qantas Lounge in Devonport, providing travellers with a more modern customer experience.
TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald said the agreement provides ongoing connectivity between Melbourne and Tasmania’s North West, and reaffirms Devonport Airport’s role as Tasmania’s North West gateway.
“Devonport Airport is already one of Australia’s top ten airports for on-time performance, and this partnership builds on that momentum.
As part of its 15-year Devonport Airport Master Plan, TasPorts is already progressing a number of initiatives, including landscaping, upgraded security measures, and more sustainable fuelling systems to support commercial and emergency aircraft.
“Business travellers passing through Devonport Airport now have access to upgraded facilities, including new Business Hubs, designed to enhance productivity and improve the travel experience,” Mr Donald said.
“Our upgraded security measures further improve safety and streamline airport operations, and our enhanced visitor area within the departure lounge, provides travellers with a more relaxed and comfortable environment whilst in transit.
“These improvements reflect TasPorts’ ongoing commitment to supporting Tasmania’s connectivity and economic growth, ensuring Devonport Airport continues to meet the needs of business and leisure travellers,” Mr Donald said.
QantasLink CEO Rachel Yangoyan said “Devonport is an important part of the Qantas network, and this lounge investment is part of our commitment to ensuring customers have a great experience both on the ground and in the air when they fly with us.”
“Thousands of Frequent Flyers use the Devonport lounge each year, and this refresh will make it more comfortable, modern and functional whether passengers are travelling for business or leisure.
“We’re investing across Tasmania, with work underway on a new and expanded Qantas Club at Hobart Airport, new aircraft improving the inflight experience to and from Apple Isle, and the relaunch of QantasLink flights from Hobart to Perth and Canberra giving customers more choice,” she said.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, said growing and improving Tasmania’s aviation network was vital for the entire state.
“By ensuring Tasmania is more accessible than ever before via air travel, we’re setting ourselves up for success,” Minister Vincent said.
“The three-year agreement signed by Qantas and the Devonport Airport is testament to that.
“We can do this by improving traveller amenity, making air travel more accessible and in turn showing the rest of the world we’re truly open for business,” Minster Vincent said.
