Launched on King Island, this exhibition brings together stories, creativity, and cultural connections from across the Bass Strait islands.

The exhibition is a celebration of the spirit of the Strait, with artists, historians, industry professionals, and community members contributing works and stories from Flinders, Deal, Robbins, Three Hummock, Truwana/Cape Barren Island, and King Island. The contributions of the community creates a powerful shared narrative that honours the individuality of each island and the connections that unite them.

Young people from the King Island Childcare & Early Learning Centre and King Island District High School shared their creativity and perspectives, offering a glimpse into the next generation of island storytellers.

TasPorts recognises the immense effort of King Island Council, Furneaux Community Arts and King Island Gallery staff and volunteers, who capture the essence of life across Bass Strait.

Call of the Strait: A Shared Story of Bass Strait Islands was made possible through the support of the TasPorts Community Grant Program, alongside King Island Council and Furneaux Community Arts. Over the past three years, TasPorts has supported almost 100 organisations through the Community Grant Program, contributing $400,000 into the Tasmanian community.

The exhibition has concluded at King Island Gallery and will open at Strait Works Gallery in early 2026.
