TasPorts Chief Executive Officer Anthony Donald welcomed the marine pilot recertification noting the IPSO is a standard of best practice for pilots and pilot organisations, improving safety and quality.

“ISPO is a quality management system which allows pilot organisation to assess, plan, conduct and monitor all aspects of pilotage operations,” Mr Donald said.

“TasPorts is proud of its pilotage services and congratulates the team for again having met the best practice standards.”

Daniel Cho, from Lloyd’s Register International conducted the initial audit and presented the ISPO Compliance Certificate to General Manager Marine, Andrew Fletcher.

The audit was conducted on site at TasPorts’ head office in Launceston, at the Port of Bell Bay and at Port Latta over four days in October.

“Achieving the ISPO Certification of Compliance demonstrates TasPorts’ ongoing commitment to best practice and demonstrates our high levels of competence required to be accredited.” General Manager Marine, Andrew Fletcher said.

“As the pilotage service for Tasmania, our teams work with a wide range of vessels including cargo, bulk, and cruise, alongside a range of scenarios including river and inland waterways and harbour and docking pilotage.”

“TasPorts pilotage services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“It is imperative that each pilotage service is done safely and efficiently, and this accreditation recognises our ongoing commitment to that.”

The ISPO is a standard of best practice for all pilot organisations, improving safety and quality. On successful award it is valid for four years, with self-regulatory assessment and transparency continually required to ensure standards are met.
