Celebrating Young Talent: EMUsicians

TasPorts is proud to support the EMUsicians — a group of talented young performers sharing the joy of live music with students across Tasmania’s North-West.

The EMUsicians program is a Primary School Band Music Program made up of students in Grades 3–6 from across the North West region.

Each year, the program gives young people the opportunity to develop their musical skills, perform with confidence, and share the power of live music with their peers.

In the lead-up to their Burnie concert series, the EMUsicians embarked on their Circular Head Outreach Tour, taking their high-energy performances to regional schools including Redpa, Edith Creek, Smithton, Stanley, Forest, Table Cape and Boat Harbour.

The tour ensured every government primary school student along the North-West Coast had the chance to experience live concert band music — something many would otherwise miss due to distance or cost.

“I don’t think we’ve previously had an opportunity to be so inclusive in our concerts before,” said EMUsicians Coordinator Andrea Hardy.

“I’m especially excited that we were able to perform for students at schools like Redpa Primary, who are often missed out because of their isolated location,” Ms Hardy said.

In November, the excitement continues in Burnie, where the EMUsicians will perform four concerts in one day — performing three daytime shows for around 1,500 students and teachers, and an evening family concert open to the public.

“The concerts not only provide our students with the essential experience of performing in front of a live audience, but they expose local primary school students to live music performance for minimal cost to the schools participating.”

What makes an EMUsicians performance truly special is the creativity and energy each show brings. As well as playing concert band music to an impressive standard for their age, the students sing, dance and interact with the audience — often in colourful costumes that make the experience unforgettable.

The EMUsicians’ outreach tour and End-of-Year concerts is supported by the TasPorts TasPorts Community Grant Program.

Over the past three years, TasPorts has proudly supported almost 100 community organisations, contributing $400,000 to local initiatives through the program.
