TasPorts, via agent Knight Frank Tasmania, has commenced an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to identify an operator for the Mersey Slipway at the Port of Devonport.
The EOI process, which closes on 30 August 2023, is being undertaken to secure a long-term lease agreement with a suitably qualified operator for the 11,100 square metre, direct river access site.
While is anticipated that interested parties will seek to use the existing facilities, there is also some scope for the development of new slipway berths and infrastructure.
The site was vacated by the previous tenant in July 2022, after which time TasPorts discovered a number of environmental issues requiring remediation.
It is not unusual for shipyard and slipway sites like the Mersey Slipway to house hazardous waste, heavy metals such as copper found in anti-fouling paints, or hydrocarbons.
Remediation works at the site are well underway.
TasPorts has previously expressed its willingness to work with any potential interested slipway operator subject to it satisfying a detailed due diligence assessment.
It is critical that any future operations provide the right level of slipway services and comply with all regulatory standards, including safety and environmental controls.
