A reminder that there will be change to traffic movements on Franklin Wharf between the Victoria Dock Bridge and the Constitution Dock Bridge in Hobart on days when larger cruise ships are in Port.
The pedestrian flow will be monitored and the area will be reopened to vehicular traffic when safe to do so.
This decision – which is similar to decisions taken in previous years to protect pedestrians on the waterfront – is a critically important one given the number of cruise ship passengers and crew that are expected this season.
The traffic management decision takes effect with the arrival of the Brilliance of the Seas.
Permit holders will continue to have access to the area.
Eighty-five cruise ship visits are scheduled for the Port of Hobart in 2022/23.
The season officially commenced in September with the call to Hobart by the Pacific Adventure but kicks off in earnest on Wednesday 25 October with the arrival of the Brilliance of the Seas in Hobart.
The 2023-24 cruise ship season represents the largest season to date for Tasmania, with 159 cruise ships booked to call across the state carrying up to 287,000 passengers and 124,000 crew.
