Port of Burnie | Berth 4 works underway

Berth strengthening work at the Port of Burnie is progressing well, with fender replacement works

Berth strengthening work required to allow the upgrade of two main stern fenders at Berth 4 at the Port of Burnie is underway.

Work commenced at the Strait Link-designated berth in February this year and is expected to be completed by the end of May (tide and weather dependent).

Tasmanian firm Batchelor Construction Group is undertaking the works.

The first phase strengthening work was undertaken during business hours, while the current phase to install the new Super Cone Fender systems needs to be completed at night to allow daily visits by Strait Link vessels.

The Batchelor team has to “work over the side” of the berth on suspended scaffolding, hence the dependence on tide and weather to complete the work.

For background, Berth 4 (the original breakwater for the Burnie Port) is the oldest commercial wharf for TasPorts at 133-years-old.
