The updated program will enable more meaningful investment in initiatives that strengthen communities, improve safety and celebrate Tasmania’s unique coastal and maritime identity.

Applications for the 2026 program will open from 17 April–31 May, with funding available for projects delivered between July 2026 and June 2027.

TasPorts Interim Chief Executive Officer, Allan Gray, said the refreshed program reflects a stronger, more strategic approach to community investment.

“Our ports are vital to Tasmania’s communities, and this program is about supporting the people, ideas and initiatives that help those communities thrive,” Mr Gray said.

“By moving to an annual program and increasing the level of funding available, we’re able to support projects with greater impact and build stronger, more meaningful connections across the regions in which we operate.”

First launched in 2022, the Community Grant Program has provided $400,000 in financial support to 99 organisations, representing a wide range of initiatives across Tasmania, from grassroots events and water safety programs to environmental and heritage projects.

The refreshed program will focus on three key areas of investment: community wellbeing and inclusion; maritime safety and preparedness; and environment, heritage and maritime culture.

Past grant recipient, Jenny Brazier from the Circular Head Landcare Group, welcomed the new program and its potential to support larger-scale community initiatives.

“It’s hugely encouraging for community groups to know there’s funding behind their ideas, along with support from industry partners,” Ms Brazier said.

“This increased funding will allow groups like ours to think bigger and deliver projects that create lasting impact.”

“Support from TasPorts has made a real difference towards our rice grass eradication program, and we’re grateful for their ongoing encouragement.”

TasPorts encourages applications from community groups, not-for-profits, councils and organisations across the state, particularly those delivering projects in or around port communities.
