Rex has confirmed the decision represents a full exit from the Devonport route and forms part of broader changes across its national network.

Rex has attributed its decision to ongoing operating pressures across the aviation sector, including sustained high fuel costs, inflation and softer demand.

TasPorts Interim Chief Executive Officer Allan Gray said Devonport Airport would continue to play a vital role in supporting connectivity for the NorthWest Coast.

“Devonport Airport remains a critical regional gateway,” Mr Gray said.

“Its central location on the NorthWest Coast continues to make Devonport Airport a convenient and accessible choice for residents, businesses and visitors travelling to and from the region.

“While Rex’s decision is disappointing for passengers who value choice, QantasLink will continue to operate services between Devonport and Melbourne, with TasPorts and Qantas continuing to invest in passenger experience improvements at Devonport Airport.”

TasPorts owns and operates Devonport Airport and continues to invest in infrastructure and facilities to support safe, reliable and efficient airport operations.

Rex commenced services at Devonport Airport in August 2022 and currently accounts for around 15 per cent of passenger movements at the airport. QantasLink will become the sole Regular Passenger Transport airline operating from Devonport following Rex’s exit.

“Airline network decisions are commercial decisions for airlines,” Mr Gray said.

“TasPorts remains committed to Devonport Airport, its workforce and the communities and businesses that rely on it. We remain open to future discussions with airlines should opportunities arise.”

Passengers with bookings beyond 19 June 2026 are encouraged to contact Rex Airlines directly for further information.
