TasPorts is undertaking seabed levelling activities in the Port of Burnie, starting today (Wednesday 7 December 2022).
The work is expected to take up to four weeks to complete, incorporating a break over the Christmas / New Year period.
TasPorts Chief Operation Officer Stephen Casey said the work was required to be undertaken in line with the company’s commitment to ensure the ongoing, safe movement of vessels in and around its port areas.
“TasPorts regularly undertakes seabed levelling and dredging activities,” he said.
Mr Casey said no materials would be removed from the port during the levelling project.
“Rather the maintenance dredging will involve sweeping of material from high to low points, with the major focus on berths 5 and 7 and their entrance corridors,” he said.
“Importantly, there will be no disruption to port and operations during the life of the project.”
The work, to be completed in accordance with TasPorts’ Environmental Standard – Seabed Levelling Activities, will occur between 6am and 10pm seven days a week.
