TasPorts has committed $250,000 to fund essential works to redevelop the Old Wharf Jetty in Stanley, ensuring the well-used community asset continues to support local fishers and recreational users.
The investment is part of TasPorts’ ongoing commitment to infrastructure upgrades and follows ongoing engagement with the Stanley Chamber of Commerce and local stakeholders.
The concept design plans for the redevelopment will be presented at the upcoming Chamber of Commerce meeting in March.
TasPorts Chief Executive Officer Anthony Donald said collaboration had been key to shaping the project.
“We have worked closely with the Stanley Chamber of Commerce on this investment, and their feedback has helped guide the design. Our focus is on delivering a wharf that is safe, functional, and built for the future.”
“The Old Wharf Jetty is a valuable asset for the local fishing industry and recreational users. TasPorts will work with the Chamber of Commerce and Circular Head Council to finalise project details and ensure the redevelopment meets community needs,” Mr Donald said.
Chamber of Commerce chairperson Bernard Atkins welcomed the investment.
“This project is a major win for Stanley. We appreciate TasPorts’ commitment to working with us and ensuring this investment delivers real benefits for local businesses and the wider community,” he said.
Since assuming management of the Port of Stanley in 2006, TasPorts has made significant investments to support the region’s economy, including the installation of a recreational pontoon facility in 2022.
TasPorts will continue to engage with local stakeholders throughout the project to ensure the Old Wharf Jetty remains a valuable asset for the community.
