TasPorts reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Stanley community to explore future options for the town’s wharf infrastructure at the Stanley Chamber of Commerce general meeting last night.

Attending the meeting as part of ongoing engagement, TasPorts’ Group Executive Major Projects, Assets and Technical Services, Michel de Vos provided an update on the condition of the marine infrastructure at the port, and the process underway to assess potential solutions. This includes smaller assets such as the small jetty which has been highlighted as having a significant recreational value to the community.

“We understand and appreciate the community’s interest in seeing upgrades to these important assets, given its role in local recreation and maritime activities,” Mr de Vos said. “As a non-commercial port, however, any investment requires careful planning and funding consideration.”

TasPorts is currently developing a business case to evaluate potential upgrades, ensuring any future investment is both viable and sustainable. TasPorts is working through this process to ensure any investment delivers value for both the community and Tasmania more broadly.

“Our focus is on finding a solution that balances community needs with financial sustainability,” Mr de Vos said. “We are committed to keeping the community informed as this work progresses and will continue working closely with stakeholders to explore opportunities.”

TasPorts will provide further updates as the business case is developed and discussions continue.
