TasPorts Chief Operating Officer Stephen Casey said the organisation is pleased to welcome Sullivans Cove Distillery, as they return to Hobart’s waterfront.

“Tasmania is now well known as the home of the world’s best whisky. It makes sense for Sullivans Cove to be housed in a landmark site on the Hobart waterfront and become a huge drawcard for visitors to the State,” Mr Casey said.

“TasPorts has owned the historic Huon Quays site since 2014. The site was originally the home port for navy ship HMAS Huon, however, more recently has been used as a backpackers and function centre.

“TasPorts recognises the historical significance of the Huon Quays site and is looking forward to seeing this history celebrated as part of the proposed development,” Mr Casey said.

During 2020, TasPorts completed a public process to assess interest in a long-term lease of part of the land within the site, from which Sullivans Cove was selected as the preferred party.
