TasPorts has completed two targeted infrastructure upgrades at the Domain Slipyard, following a review of the site’s Environmental Management Plan.
The first involved the replacement of the site’s ageing diesel fuel tank. Delivered through close collaboration between environment, safety and operations teams, the project also included a new bowser, improved bunding, and updated signage. The condition of the old tank raised concerns about potential failure during removal, but proactive site planning and risk management ensured a safe and incident-free process.
The second upgrade focused on stormwater infrastructure. Runoff from the City of Hobart’s network crosses the slipyard site, and during heavy rain can make it difficult to contain contaminants. In partnership with the City, new stormwater culverts were installed to improve site drainage and reduce environmental risk. The project was co-funded by TasPorts and the City of Hobart, with design and delivery support provided by the City’s civil projects team.
Together, these upgrades enhance the functionality and environmental performance of the Domain Slipyard, helping TasPorts continue to provide safe, reliable infrastructure to support marine activity on the Derwent.
