Tasmanian Forestry Industry

TasPorts is proud to support Tasmania's forest industry through the delivery of critical infrastructure and services that enable the global export of forest products.

As the operator of key infrastructure at the ports of Burnie, Bell Bay, and Hobart, we are committed to working with our forest industry partners and investing in our network to ensure our ports remain efficient, sustainable, and fit for purpose as vital export gateways.

In the last 10 years, TasPorts has facilitated the export of more than 35 million tonnes of woodchips and logs for our customers.

TasPorts' forestry infrastructure

  • Established in 2017, the Southern Export Terminal (SET) is a joint venture between TasPorts and Qube, providing marshalling, log storage and stevedoring functions at the Port of Hobart, ensuring the efficient movement of forest products sourced from southern Tasmania.
  • TasPorts own and manage the Burnie Chip Export Terminal (BCET), which exports more than 1.1 million tonnes of woodchips per year. We are also reinvesting funds to future-proof this important infrastructure to support the Tasmanian forest industry.
  • In November 2024, TasPorts announced an upgrade to the woodchip ship loader at the Port of Bell Bay to accommodate larger woodchip vessels and enhance efficiency. This infrastructure upgrade is scheduled for completion in June 2028.

TasPorts is committed to the long-term success of Tasmania's forest industry, supporting this industry's future in a competitive global market.
